Apple Wallet & Google Wallet Shopify POS Integration Guide

How to Integrate Apple Wallet and Google Wallet Passes with Shopify POS #

Litecard connects Apple Wallet and Google Wallet passes with Shopify and Shopify POS. Merchants can issue digital loyalty cards, membership passes and unique discount passes, identify customers by scanning a QR code or barcode at checkout, and apply Shopify discounts directly from the POS.

This guide explains how to install the Litecard Shopify app, connect Shopify customer identifiers, distribute wallet passes and redeem offers in-store.

What the Litecard Shopify Integration Does

·       Issues branded Apple Wallet and Google Wallet passes to Shopify customers.

·       Stores a Shopify Customer ID, loyalty number, email address or another unique identifier inside a QR code or barcode.

·       Allows store staff to scan a wallet pass and attach the customer to a Shopify POS sale.

·       Creates unique Shopify discount codes for wallet-based campaigns.

·       Applies eligible discounts through the Litecard Shopify POS tile.

·       Supports CRM, CDP and loyalty integrations for live pass updates, customer journeys and push notifications.

Common Shopify Wallet Use Cases

Digital loyalty cards: Give customers a scannable Apple Wallet or Google Wallet loyalty card without requiring a separate mobile app.

Customer identification: Scan a customer’s wallet pass at Shopify POS instead of manually searching by name, phone number or email.

Wallet discounts and vouchers: Issue unique discount passes that can be scanned and applied to the cart in-store.

Membership and VIP access: Display membership status, tier or entitlement and identify the customer at checkout.

Lifecycle marketing: Send wallet links through email, SMS, WhatsApp, account pages or post-purchase journeys, then update the pass and send push notifications.

How Shopify Customer Identification Works

A Litecard wallet pass can contain a unique value that links the passholder to a Shopify customer. When the QR code or barcode is scanned, Litecard reads the value and attaches the matching customer to the Shopify POS sale.

Choose a consistent customer identifier

The identifier should be unique, stable and available in every system involved in the integration. Common options include:

·       Shopify Customer ID

·       Loyalty or membership number

·       Email address

·       A custom customer reference stored in Shopify metafields

Using the same identifier across Shopify, Litecard and your CRM or loyalty platform reduces duplicate records and failed lookups.

Send the Customer Identifier to Litecard

Before Litecard generates the wallet pass, the selected customer identifier must be sent to Litecard and inserted into the pass QR code or barcode.

Integration method 1: CRM, CDP or loyalty platform #

Shopify, Klaviyo, Braze, Emarsys, Insider, Dotdigital, a loyalty platform or a CDP can send customer data to Litecard through an API, webhook or middleware integration. Litecard then creates or updates the wallet pass using the mapped identifier.

Integration method 2: Shopify automation or middleware #

Where no CRM or CDP is available, Shopify Flow, middleware, Zapier, Make or a custom backend service can send customer details to Litecard.

Store Wallet Links Against the Customer

After the pass is created, store the customer’s Apple Wallet link, Google Wallet link and relevant pass identifiers in Shopify metafields, your CRM, loyalty platform or CDP. These links can then be inserted into:

·       Welcome and loyalty emails

·       SMS or WhatsApp messages

·       Post-purchase journeys

·       Customer account pages

·       Membership or VIP dashboards

How to Scan a Customer at Shopify POS

1. The customer opens their pass

The customer opens the Litecard pass in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.

2. Staff opens the Litecard POS tile

From Shopify POS, the staff member opens the Litecard customer scanning tile.

3. Scan the pass

Use the POS device camera or supported scanner to scan the QR code or barcode shown on the pass.

4. Attach the customer to the sale

Litecard reads the identifier and attaches the matching Shopify customer to the transaction.

A Litecard wallet pass can be scanned to identify a customer at Shopify POS.

This workflow removes manual customer searches and helps staff consistently identify members, apply loyalty benefits and capture attributable transactions.

How to Create Shopify Wallet Discounts

Litecard can also issue a unique Shopify discount code for each wallet pass. This is useful for welcome offers, VIP rewards, seasonal promotions and wallet-only campaigns.

Create the Shopify discount rule

1. Create the pass template

Log in to the Litecard Dashboard and create the Apple Wallet and Google Wallet pass design for the campaign.

2. Create the discount in Shopify

In Shopify Admin, create the discount conditions, value, eligibility rules and expiry settings required for the campaign.

Create the campaign discount in Shopify Admin.

3. Copy the Shopify Discount Rule ID

After saving the discount, open it in Shopify Admin and copy the numeric identifier shown at the end of the page URL. Litecard uses this rule ID to generate unique discount codes against the correct Shopify rule.

Locate the Shopify discount rule ID in the discount page URL.

Connect the discount rule to Litecard

The Litecard implementation team connects the Shopify discount rule to the relevant Litecard template through the Litecard API. The configuration may include the Litecard template ID, business ID, Shopify rule ID and the setting that enables unique coupon generation.

Example configuration:

{
  “id”: “{templateId}”,
  “shopifySettings”: {
“client”: “{businessId}”,
“ruleId”: 1694127030589,
“version”: “V1”,
“generateCoupon”: true
  }
}

The exact payload and API version should be confirmed against the current Litecard API documentation before implementation.

Issue and distribute the wallet offer

Once connected, Litecard creates a unique Shopify discount code when an eligible wallet pass is issued. Passes can be distributed through:

·       A Litecard sign-up form

·       A Shopify or CRM-triggered welcome journey

·       Email or SMS campaigns

·       Customer account pages

·       Pre-generated campaign audiences created through the Litecard Dashboard or API

Create or issue wallet-based voucher passes for eligible customers.

Shopify discount codes can also be managed through the merchant’s existing campaign workflow.

Testing Before Launch

·       Create test customers in Shopify using each supported customer journey.

·       Confirm that the correct identifier is written to the pass QR code or barcode.

·       Test Apple Wallet and Google Wallet separately.

·       Confirm that customer scanning attaches the correct Shopify profile.

·       Test valid, expired, already-used and ineligible discounts.

·       Confirm that discount values and exclusions match the Shopify rule.

·       Test all CRM, email, SMS and account-page wallet links.

·       Provide store staff with a short checkout and troubleshooting guide.

Best Practices

·       Use Shopify Customer ID or another stable value rather than data that customers frequently change.

·       Store wallet links and pass identifiers against the customer profile for future campaign use.

·       Keep loyalty identification and discount redemption as clearly separated workflows.

·       Use descriptive campaign and template names across Shopify and Litecard.

·       Limit custom app permissions to those required for the implementation.

·       Promote wallet adoption in welcome flows, post-purchase communications, receipts, account pages and in-store signage.

·       Monitor pass issuance, scans, customer matches and discount redemptions after launch.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Shopify customers add a loyalty card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet?

Yes. Litecard creates branded wallet passes that can be distributed through Shopify, CRM journeys, email, SMS, QR codes and customer account pages.

Can Shopify POS scan an Apple Wallet or Google Wallet pass?

Yes. A Litecard pass can display a QR code or barcode containing a Shopify Customer ID, loyalty number or another mapped identifier. The Litecard Shopify POS extension reads that value and performs the configured customer or discount workflow.

Can a wallet pass identify a Shopify customer?

Yes. The pass must contain an identifier that also exists against the Shopify customer record. Litecard uses the scanned value to locate and attach the matching customer to the sale.

Can Litecard work with a Shopify loyalty app?

Yes. Litecard can act as the wallet and customer-identification layer while the merchant’s loyalty platform manages points, rewards, tiers or eligibility. The exact integration depends on the loyalty provider’s APIs and data model.

Can Shopify discounts be added to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet?

Yes. Litecard can generate a pass containing a unique Shopify discount code. Store staff can scan the code through the Litecard Shopify POS tile and apply the eligible discount to the cart.

Can live points or tier information appear on the wallet pass?

Yes, where the loyalty platform exposes the required data and APIs. Litecard can update pass fields such as points, tier, status or reward availability.

Does Litecard support NFC?

NFC-based wallet identification requires compatible devices, readers and wallet-specific configuration. QR codes and barcodes are the standard workflow described in this guide. Contact Litecard to assess an NFC implementation.
